When I was 4, I asked Jesus into my heart while my family was on vacation. When we came back home, I remember desperately running and grabbing hold of my best friend, Trent, and begging him to accept Christ. I starved to see him spend eternity in heaven and was terrified to know what the alternative was if he didn’t. (he already had accepted Christ if you were wondering)
It is funny to picture a 4 year old pleading another 4 year old to save his life by accepting Christ, but the scary thing is: at that age I got the severe urgency of the message of Christ better than I do now.
If we truly realized what was at stake, if we truly grasped the horror of hell and the paradise of heaven, then we would give everything we had, every penny, every ounce of strength to bring as many people to heaven with us as possible.
The magician Penn Jillette, a self proclaimed athiest, said that if Christianity were true, how much would you have to hate someone to not share the salvation of Christ with them and so condemning them to eternity in torment.
He was so right. Why are we not spending our every waking moments trying to show as many as we can the love of Christ?
In Matthew 4:9, while Satan is tempting Jesus in the wilderness, Satan tells Jesus that he will give Jesus the world if Jesus will bow down and worship him. When I read this verse, I was horrified. I was horrified because the world is already Satan’s to do with as he pleases. Our world is lost, dark, broken. We as Christians must shine the light of Christ into the darkness in hope that some might see the light and follow Jesus. There is more at stake than religion. There is more at stake then the number of seats filled in the church. The eternal destination of those that you come in contact with is on your shoulders. Will you tell them about your Light or leave them in the dark?
