Caffeine

Over 5 years ago, a friend of mine decided to stop drinking any kind of soda for a month.  For a few days I enjoyed tormenting her as I chugged a Dr. Pepper, but eventually I stopped as well to support her through her fast.  That was 5 years ago and I still don’t drink soda or caffeine.

To some of you reading, that statement might have been appalling.  You can’t make it through your day without your early morning coffee or Mountain Dew.  You just can’t imagine a world without your caffeine boost.

Our souls need a boost sometimes too.  Just like our physical bodies, our spiritual selves get fatigued and weary.  They need a shot of caffeine.  But how?  Do they make Starbucks for the soul?

The answer is God’s word.  Time spent reading about God is invaluable.  It is an intimate time where we learn about Him and ourselves.  One of my favorite passages of Scripture is Psalm 23.  In verse 3 it says, “He refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right path.”

We all know exhaustion, fatigue.  If we deprive ourselves of the energy of God’s word then we will never be able to fully enjoy the blessing God gives us.  Stop skipping your Jesus caffeine.  Live a life of high energy for your Savior.
