Fish

One day, I was driving home from Chick Fil A (I love that place), and I pulled up next to a man on a scooter at the light.  This guy had this look on his face like he was the hottest thing in town.  His face had a smirk drawn across it and he was bobbing his head almost trying to make me agree with him that he was the man.  I thought it was pretty amusing, but then it got better.  On the other side of scooter man pulled up a beautiful and powerful Harley Davidson.  The rider didn’t have to prove his swag.  He had it oozing out of every pore of his body, and seated behind him on his majestic chopper was an amazingly beautiful woman.  I watched as the look on scooter man’s face faded from cocky and arrogant to dejected and defeated.

I learned an important thing in that moment: there is always a bigger fish.  There is always someone better, stronger, faster, nicer smelling, better looking, taller, cooler.  When we begin to think we are better than anyone else around us then we become useless to God.

James 4:6 - “But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

God wants people that are confident in His power, not in their own.  Let’s face it, God is the biggest fish there is.  No one gets better, stronger, faster than Him.  When we start putting our faith in our own ability we will fall short every time.  Don’t you remember: all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God? (Romans 3:23)

So always remember that when we trust God nothing can stop us.  The great army of Midian could not stop Gideon and his small army of 300 because God was with Him.  Old age could not stop Joshua from entering the Promised Land because God was with him.  Nature could not stop Peter from walking on water because God was with him.  When we trust God, we do the impossible.  So who are you putting your faith in?
