It is never easy to take criticism. Especially when it’s right. Every day I go through life trying to do my best for God, but truth is we are all human, and I am more of a bonehead than most people.
Today, I was on the phone with my amazing mother. I was talking about all the things going on in my life, work, school, friends, and everything else. I was telling her about the things I am currently struggling with and in all her wisdom and honesty she told me that she was hear the word “I” a lot in everything I was saying.
It was not what I wanted to hear because I knew she was right. In all my effort to serve God and spread His light, I made it about me. As much as I wanted to fight it and tell her I was wrong I couldn’t. That is something I will have to deal with and fix.
I say all that to illustrate a very important truth. You need to have people in your life that will say it to you straight. That you will listen to even though you don’t always want to hear the truth. These are people that care too much about you to let you keep on living your life as a bonehead like I was. Also make sure you are connected to God’s word. No one can keep you guided and focused than God. He wants you to grow. God wants you to be the best you that you can be. Spending time in God’s word will not only keep you from going down the wrong path, but will change you into the mature powerful person that God knows you can be.
James 1:23-25 - “Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.”
