Serve

Lately God has really been teaching me the true meaning behind the word ministry.  To minister is simply meeting the needs of others.  It is the verb of Christianity.

In John 13, Jesus gets down and washes the feet of the 12 disciples.  In that time everyone wore sandals and walked on dirt roads, so everyone had feet that smelled like a bathroom or like their feet had died days before (their feet smelled really bad is what I am trying to say).  Because of this, no one would touch other’s feet.  The only people that did were the slaves that were forced to clean the stink off of their master’s feet.  Cleaning the feet was the duty of a servant; society’s lowest.  And Jesus himself got down on His hands and knees to wash the feet of His disciples.

It breaks my heart that my God, my King, the Creator of the Universe, sacrificed all His rights as God, and got down on His hands and knees to clean the filth off of my life so I could spend eternity in heaven with Him.  Jesus loved me enough to become the lowest of the low to serve me.

“When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.” - John 13:12-14

God loved us enough to get dirty, to get hurt, in order to clean up our lives.  Now we are called to serve others with the same heart that we have been served.  So go.  Be the realization of your fullest potential, a servant.
